WPC54G under Mandrake 10.2

Believe it or not, WPC54G's do work under Mandrake Linux version 10.2. It's really simple, too. I never was able to get this card working under the LinuxAnt software. With the new ndisdriver that comes with Mandrake 10.2, it worked after the first configuration attempt.

Thanks go to the people in this thread for the hints embedded in their conversation.

Here's the procedure (more or less):
  1. Install Mandrake's ndisdriver RPM
  2. Download the appropriate driver from the Linksys site (if there's a choice, get the zip file rather than the self-extracting exe)
  3. Unzip the file in a work directory (note: I don't know yet if this will be a permanent work dir)
  4. Run "Configure your computer"
  5. Click on "Hardware"
  6. Click on "Look at and configure the hardware"
  7. Wait for the program to detect your hardware (it'll take awhile)
  8. Under "Ethernetcard", you should see "BCM94306 802.11g NIC" or some such. Click on that
  9. Click on "Run config tool"
  10. Click on all of the obvious stuff
  11. When it asks for the wrapper, give it "lsbcmnds.inf" from inside your work directory.

I'll add notes to this page as I discover them. One of the reasons I wanted the 54G card to work is that 802.11b is just a couple bits too slow to stream the higher quality video. Hopefully 54G will be able to handle it. I'll post notes on that also.
