For sale to the lucky high bidder is one Cray EL-98 supercomputer. This 1992-era machine is a child of the YMP series, designed to be a more "affordable" number cruncher for organizations without government-sized budgets. It's air cooled, requiring no air conditioning plant or refrigerated liquids, and runs on 200-240 VAC at 24 amps max.

This machine has three 133 MFLOPS vector CPUs and four MEM 8 cards for a total of 512 Mbytes of RAM. There are eight SCSI channels, Ethernet, and what appears to be a dual channel fiber optic HIPPI interface. Several Unicos tapes are included.
On the other side, there are two drive trays with four SCSI drives each.
And on the rear, power input and connectors for SCSI, a serial terminal and Ethernet.
I have been told that this machine once belonged to Apple Computer, where it was used to design Macs. And I've been told it was working when it left Apple. I don't have the expertise to determine if this machine is in perfect working order - the extent of my tests has been to power it up with a terminal attached and ensure that I could communicate with the IOS, which I did with no problem.
This machine is being sold as-is. It may be your goal to keep it operational as a classic piece of hardware, or to sell off its parts, or to make it into furniture. All I ask is that you will give it a worthy home.
This monster weighs 1400 pounds. UPS isn't going to deliver it to your front porch. You, the buyer, will be responsible for all shipping and crating costs. I have a loading dock, so you can pick it up from my building here in Boston, MA, or I will ship it by a mutually agreeable carrier, who will also do the crating.
I'll accept money order(s) or a cashier's cheque (preferred). All sales final.
Please feel free to email me with any questions. I have more pictures
as well.
