My friend Ken Kurzweil went to his school's votech class. The class
received donations from time to time of equipment. The schools policy was
that they couldn't give away the donated equipment, but if a student
made a donation they could get hardware if there was no use for it in
the school. This Amiga fell into that category.
Well past the prime of Amiga, I was interested. When I was younger the
decision between an Amiga 2000 or a Gateway 386-25sx was given to me. I
took the PC route, and am glad I did. However, I still had an interest
in the Amiga.
This machine came in really handy when I started to play with laser show
software. I managed to get the Pangolin LSD-1000 package running on it,
and did the modification. It worked well. For a while I was looking into
an Amiga 1200 with a Hard disk to run LaserMax, but gave up on that project.
The Amiga came with tons of software and accessories. I did quite a bit of
Xmodem transfers to the 40mb hard drive from my PC. It was very painful to
transfer data to the machine. I should probably look to see if linux can
mount an Amiga formatted ZIP disk.
My main interest in it still is running demos on it. I was always a fan of
demos on the PC and other platforms, they are a good measure to see the
absolute capabilities of a system.
